From Flat Whites to Late Nights

Ponsonby

The boulevard of flat white dreams is a five-minute stroll from The Kubrick. Lined with Kiwi and international clothing labels, and curated homeware stores, Ponsonby sets the gold standard for high-end, style. The area is also home to the most excellent Objectspace (declaration: Ockham is principal partner of this finest design, craft and architecture gallery).

Foodwise, Ponsonby is an unending feast. New joints – Jacuzzi and Tobi – go shoulder to shoulder with famed institutions like Prego and Azabu. Ponsonby Central is home to more than 20 eateries, brunch spots and bars – the perfect place to meet up with friends and see where the day (or night) takes you.

Throw in drinking dens like The Whiskey Bar, and Dead Shot, and it’s fair to say living within walking proximity of Ponsonby Road will annoy your friends as they clamber into Ubers while you amble home.

Freemans Bay

Even closer to home is Freemans Bay favourite, Nishiki. Locals love this Japanese spot with its delightful sharing menu, perfect for a pre-gig bite or a cosy catch-up. Or you can linger at The Wine Room on College Hill and enjoy a glass of excellent wine or a classic cocktail. From there, it’s a short walk to Victoria Park – a pocket of green surrounded by delis, cafés, chic workout spot, and boutiques – the kind of place you’ll stop by for coffee and accidentally spend an afternoon.

Karangahape Road

Then there’s Karangahape Road, inarguably one of

Auckland’s most iconic strips. Home for Auckland’s LGBTQ+ community, artists, and musicians – a font of cool spilling out of the inner city – K’ Road’s gritty, bohemian charms are a quick dart from The Kubrick.

Dining along K has revved-up in recent years, with the emergence of eateries like handmade pasta pros Pici, Coco’s Cantina and Lebanese hotspots Gemmayze Street and the Lebanese Grocer. Plus, a line-up of breezily high-calibre cafés like Open Coffee, Une-Deux, and Bestie, and galleries such as Artspace and Mokopōpaki mean you’ll never be at a loss for weekend wandering

Energetic, eclectic and endlessly evolving, K’ Road brings a unique sense of character to life at The Kubrick.
